This is the existent deal. I used my Instant Pot Electric Force per unit area cooker / slow cooker. I trimmed the beefiness, cutting along the musculus and removed any grizzle and whatever big hunks of fatty. Seared the beef as directed in the Instant Pot using the saute feature. Once the beef was seared, I deglazed the pot with the vinegar and goop. Added the meat and seasoning and cooked nether pressure for xxx minutes, and then switched to slow cook until yous are ready to eat. The meat is very flavorful, not overly spicy. Perfect for tacos, taquitos or burritos. I made this a twenty-four hour period ahead of time, cooled and packed into mason jars. The next twenty-four hours I skimmed the fat and re-heated the meat. Fried taco shells and dinner was gear up. Perfection!

I am rating this recipe because information technology deserves more reviews and then people won't exist scared to try information technology. Muy unproblematic y muy delicioso. My BF, el taco snob, absolutely loved this! I recommend making some spicy pickled red onions to superlative these bad boys off. This recipe is definitely a keeper and will be my go-to from now on.
03/01/2017
I fabricated this for homemade "street style" taco filling. My family and I loved this! The meat was super tender, juicy - melts in your oral cavity .. just awesome! I will definitely exist making this one many times in the future! A week afterwards, I made this again, but used iii lbs boneless, skinless chicken breasts and chicken broth instead of the beef. The craven tacos were just every bit awesome as the beef tacos of last week! This is a keeper! Thanks for sharing your recipe, Jack!

We accept made this many times. It is a staple in our domicile! What actually makes a divergence and gets the meat and so tender is to set up it beforehand. Take out the chuck roast, put on a plate, pat dry with a paper towel and season both sides generously with salt. Go out it on the counter in room temperature for an hour (exercise this with steaks also, it makes meat so tender and juicy). I cut it in large chunks and sear information technology before putting it in the slowcooker. Information technology is torture smelling information technology all solar day, but and so worth information technology!!

Great recipie.... Very flavorful and beef merely fell apart!! My husband loved it, but be careful using 4 chipotle peppers fifty-fifty though very pocket-sized ... They are very Potent and makes for a very spicy meal! We definitely will make once more but may try to use just 2-three peppers instead of iv!!

ane/16/18 - Very good recipe for Barbacoa! Excellent flavor! Made as written and this will exist our go to recipe for shredded beef for tacos, tostadas, taquitos, etc. I was a footling concerned when I removed the beef and tasted the liquid alone. One time y'all put the shredded meat back in the ho-hum cooker, everything comes together. I did not discover a stiff vinegar sense of taste and it was not too spicy for u.s. with the amount of chipotles chosen for in the recipe. If you are hesitant to try this because of the peppers, reduce the amount by one-half should be ok, only we felt it was on the mild side as is. The just change I will make next time is to add more salt towards end of cooking. Thank you for the recipe! UPDATE 6/27/eighteen - Fabricated this in the Instant Pot with ii lb chuck roast, fat trimmed (Meat/Stew selection for 45 min let natural release for about 15-twenty min, and then quick release). So delish and shredded nicely This time I used 5 + 1 really small pepper in adobo sauce (vi full) and the meat had a slight kick to it, simply non overpowering. Slight vinegar taste did come through more, but non overwhelming at all. Might reduce the amount a picayune next fourth dimension. Excellent recipe!
08/21/2017
This was delicious! The aroma overtook my husband, and he had a taste before it was washed cooking. My only edit...It cooked in about six (6) hours instead of the amount listed for the irksome cooker on low. We besides added bong peppers and onions for the terminal hour and it was perfect for us.
07/14/2016
Holy Toledo! This was one of the most amazing dinners I've had in a long fourth dimension!! Give thanks goodness I have some left for tomorrow!
05/05/2016
Amazing and like shooting fish in a barrel! I don't have a tedious cooker and so covered information technology with foil in a glass baking dish, oven at 250 for 6 hours. Took it out to shred, recover and cook for one more than hour. Can't handle too much spice so I scraped out the seeds and it has a nice boot without making my mouth sad.
07/22/2016
Allow'south start by saying I don't care for the chipotle flavor much but my husband and blood brother said hands downward the best tacos they have ever had! And non to brag simply I make some fire pork tacos. My mom doesn't even swallow spicy stuff and she ate a ton! Information technology's definitely got some spice to it! So information technology's a striking here and will make it for many more dinners with friends!
07/24/2017
This was fantastic! I fabricated a double batch of this for street tacos this weekend and my friends and family ate it up in no time. When it was washed, I was worried that the beefiness was also spicy, but once you put it on a tortilla with a little cabbage, sour cream and pickled cerise onions, they were perfect. The but changes that I fabricated to this recipe were: ane. I added a chopped up bell pepper to the meat mixture in the crockpot to give it a little texture, and 2. I used a cast iron pan to braise the beefiness, so the amount of oil listed was really not necessary. Other than that, I would say this is perfect. My friends and family raved that they were the best street tacos that they had ever had.
05/05/2016
Piece of cake and fantastic. Used just one chili since my kids don't similar things too spicy.
05/06/2016
I brand this all the time. It is definitely my favorite repast. I use dried chipotle peppers instead of canned, but leave everything else the same. Perfect.
05/xi/2019
I doubled the recipe because I was making information technology for a crowd. It was extremely moist and just fell apart (in a skilful way!) when shredding. Very flavorful!
x/13/2016
Worst barbacoa I've always had
03/16/2019
Super piece of cake and the whole family loved information technology. Volition definitely brand it again.
03/06/2019
Holy tacos! Used a regular crockpot to make this recipe... easy to toss together my only complaint is that it took too long to cook and I thought I was going to starve smelling it all day. Must become a faster crockpot! Meat was tender, juicy and had just enough kicking to it. Will be making this i again!
03/24/2019
To shred the beef easily, use beaters. (Yes, equally in regular old beaters that you lot use to brand cake mix.) Crawly sense of taste!
05/14/2019
My family unit loved it! I made information technology step past step no changes and it was perfect!
06/10/2019
WOW! This is good! It smelled just like Chipotle but in my opinion its wwwayyyy spicier than Chipotle! I volition make it again for sure but use less chipotles in adobo. I also made cilantro lime rice.
03/xxx/2019
Excellent I will definitely make information technology again!
12/07/2018
Delicious!! A little spicy, but we love nutrient with a little kick. Cutting back on the corporeality of peppers if you don't like also much spice. Nosotros added information technology to brown rice, pinto beans, fresh Monterey Jack cheese, and sliced avocado. Yum!
12/23/2017
It turned out great! A lot of times slow cooker recipes taste the aforementioned to me but this one definitely did not. The whole family loved it.
05/02/2016
I fabricated this in my electric pressure cooker. Browned the encounter according to recipe, and cooked it on loftier pressure for thirty minutes as advised by Baking Nana. Meat was nice and tender with plenty of flavor but it was a piffling too spicy for me; edible, but had a boot!!! Side by side time I'll add ane/2 the chipotle peppers.
12/31/2017
Crawly dish - but if y'all don't care for spicy food or take kids that would prefer something more mild, I would cut the peppers in one-half.
04/23/2018
I made this recipe in my pressure cooker. It took about 35 minutes to cook the meat in one case I seared and browned it in a skillet. The meat was flavorful and tender. I over used the chipotle peppers on my get-go batch and thus my gustatory modality buds were dancing. I fabricated a second batch co-ordinate to the recipe and the heat was drastically reduced. I like Tex-Mex dishes and this recipe certainly fit the bill for me.
07/03/2017
I only ate some craven I made using this recipe like another person commented . Tasted exactly like Chipotles Barbacoa. I was afraid the 4 chipotles would be a trivial likewise spicy but it was just the correct amount. You should actually try this recipe. Yous wont regret it.
12/10/2017
Made it exactly as published and my hubs and I loved it. Delish with a little pico de gallo on a tortilla. Will definitely brand again.
06/07/2017
Just finished it. Tastes corking. Perhaps a bit heavy on the oregano, but simply bought oregano today in the plastic packets in the Mexican seasoning section. Mayhap because its fresher the oregano was a bit stronger so the bottles of seasoning.
08/02/2017
This is an Astonishing recipe!!! I did cut the chipotle peppers on half because it would've been also spicy, simply we are looking forward to leftovers this night! I made burrito bowls with this shredded beefiness and they were delicious--definitely making this once again!!!
03/eleven/2018
I made this in my instant pot. I sectioned my roast into equal pieces, but did non sautƩ in oil. I just seasoned information technology, added the remaining ingredients and cooked on high pressure for 50 minutes, with a natural release. Perfect for tacos, quesadillas, nachos, burritos, enchiladas, tortes, etc.,
08/12/2016
It was and then delicious! I served it on tostadas with lettuce & shredded cheese.
09/20/2017
THIS RECIPE HAS BEEN ALTERED SINCE THE Concluding Time I Made THE Meal. Ingredients are missing but information technology still turned out well. It is a swell recipe for beef taco lovers. - JAF
03/24/2020
I loved this recipe... the only changes I made was I added 1 cup of beef stock and 1 cup of water and ii cinnamon sticks instead of cloves ... I only used two chipotle pepper.. not as well hot just right... I also cooked it in a dutch oven on 275 for three hrs... delicious.... melts in ur mouth.... oh and for my topping I made pico ... I will exist making this again.....
12/08/2016
Fabricated every bit per directions except used a dutch oven. @ 285. Meat was falling autonomously in iii hours. We made tacos out of information technology, and my Mexican wife admittedly loved them. That speaks volumes. The simply problem I found was that it was a chip greasier than it should accept. Solution to that is to trim fatty before searing. That is the reason for the missing star. muy bueno
02/xi/2018
This was okay. The meat was tender, but the vinegar gustatory modality was overpowering. If I make information technology again, I would cut the amount of vinegar in one-half.
01/26/2019
Served this for dinner when having the family over. All our kids (adults) and my married man raved about it. That's a huge compliment. I made it exactly to the recipe with no changes. Will definitely make it again.
05/01/2017
Smelled not bad while cooking, simply was underwhelmed when I ate it. Groovy but nothing I would crave. If you use plenty condiments, and so the meat becomes less of import.
05/18/2020
I was scared to endeavour this recipe at commencement because I had never made barbacoa before, but I am so glad I decided to requite it a shot. It is my go-to at present, whenever I decide to brand homemade chimichangas for dinner. If yous're sensitive to spice, I would recommend cutting back on the chilies. If you lot like your food to have some heat, I would recommend adding more. Try it!!!
08/27/2019
made it every bit is and my hubby, family and guests loved it. Volition brand it again.
01/14/2018
This got an immediate "make this again" from my family. I used 2 1.five lb chuck roasts and cooked them on low for 7 hours. I did not cut up the adobe peppers and simply pulled them out before I shredded the beefiness. I served it with sauteed peppers and onions.
03/16/2020
My chuck roast was only 1.5 lbs but I kept the balance of the ingredients the same. Hubby thought it was just and so-so but I thought it was excellent. Thank you lot for the recipe.
02/06/2017
All I tin say is "YUMMY". I used this to make oven baked chimichangas. Information technology really was delicious and enjoyed by all.
05/31/2020
Did three chipotle peppers, no cloves - bottom circular well trimmed, cutting up at ii hours before washed.
05/24/2018
This was WONDERFUL! I used 5lbs meat and put the spices in a blender. The whole can of adobo was a bit much for our family and our guests, but so delicious we still ate every bite. Next fourth dimension I will use possibly a one-half a tin? Excited to make this again!
07/03/2019
I put a little as well much apple cider vinegar. DON'T DO THAT. If anything become light on the apple tree cider vinegar
02/04/2017
FANTASTIC! I had friends over this evening for Mexican dark. I wanted to attempt something new so I tried this recipe and I followed the directions exactly how they are written. Didn't change a affair. It was so flavorful and delicious! Everyone LOVED it as much every bit I did. I will be making this again!!!
11/08/2019
Followed the recipe exactly. It was amazing, anybody loved it!
05/07/2016
Made this for cinco de mayo, and will def make once again.Afterwards checking in about 6hrs or so,all I could taste was the cumin, but some salt stock-still it to perfection. I always go easy on salt when cooking something for long periods,so I guess I went a little too easy!!
10/22/2016
Cut dorsum on the garlic due to personal preference and it was still delicious.
05/03/2020
very good, easy to make, only had 1.5 lb roast simply used same amount of remaining ingredients. Shredded very nicely and tasted great.
06/23/2020
Was not impressed
09/15/2018
I didn't make any changes and information technology was delicious. Even my picky daughter liked it.
04/23/2019
Had to cook it on high setting only due to starting it very late in the twenty-four hours but it still came out really well. Cooked virtually iv.v hrs on high. Will make again.
08/28/2016
looove this recipe!! and then easy and super delish!
08/30/2020
Delish!!! It was spicier than Chipotle. Yous can vary the kick by counting the peppers in the sauce. If you want a more balmy kick, utilize i-2 chipotle peppers instead of iii-4.
11/15/2021
Awesome recipe, I cooked this with goat instead of the beef mmm mmm mmm it was so good and got many compliments for it. Seasonings are right on point. Will be trying this with beef today. Thank you for a great recipe
01/30/2021
I have made this recipe exactly equally written several times. It is delicious! Everyone loves it including my kids. I have too made a double batch for a party and all the guests raved well-nigh it. This recipe is fantastic!

Succulent! Loved it. Volition definitely make again!
04/22/2021
My family and I couldn't go past the horrible smell of it cooking. Followed the recipe exactly and my house reeked. How anyone could eat this is across me. And I have ii teenagers who eat at Chipotle all the time.
05/22/2022
Authentic barbacoa is goat meat never beefiness!
12/20/2020
Made this for the first time, turned out fantastic. Meat literally brutal apart information technology was so tender. Will definitely make this once more.
03/19/2018
Ingredients for this recipe are a great start! I suggest adjusting ingredients to your liking. I didn't use cloves and cut the Chipotle peppers by one-half. Also used 1 tbsp powdered Boullion to the one/2 cup h2o and had a richer season. I'll stick with this recipe.
10/28/2019
I love spicy, and then I added a whole can of Chipotle peppers (six) to well-nigh two lbs of beefiness. Information technology was amazing! I'd like to find a recipe to have some of the Chipotle peppers every bit a sauce to put on the meat also.
06/21/2020
This was fabulous! I added about i/3 of a chopped xanthous onion and some extra pepper and smoked paprika to raise the flavor!!!
08/20/2018
What a hitting. The meat only melted and was a cakewalk to shred. The season was perfect merely I only used 3 chipotle peppers rather than four. I too made a delicious side dressing with mayo, sour cream, lemon juice and two chipotle peppers which a keen compliment to the beef.
05/24/2017
Amazingly delicious!! I accept made this many times. The only alter I make is adding more chipotle peppers in adobo sauce because we like the spiciness!! Contrary to nigh Minnesotan preferences! Lol
02/03/2017
This was excellent! I cooked it in a pot over the stove elevation and used flank steak. It was incredibly spicy then maybe next time I will take it piece of cake on the chipotle with abodo sauce!!!! This will definitely be a favorite in our house!!!!!
05/03/2016
Love the beef
12/22/2016
Extremely hot for me.
09/09/2019
This was like shooting fish in a barrel and great! Made it in the crock pot. Tin can't wait to brand it again.
02/04/2019
Added boosted peppers in adobo sauce We loved it , definitely will make this over again
05/xx/2017
I tried the recipe and information technology turned out bad. It was pretty mushy and flavourless. This is going to be the last time I attempt a slow cooker recipe with anything acidic because it only ends up dissolving and ruining the meat. I think I will salve it by pouring out the broth and add charcoal-broil sauce and brand sandwiches out of it. Ugh, just terrible.
02/18/2017
I made recipe exactly as written. Information technology was delicious! Even meliorate as leftovers!
06/09/2018
I followed the recipie every bit is. I take to admit I was skeptical as I also experience all crockpot recipes sense of taste the same simply non this one! It is very flavorful. I used my dual crockpot buffet server. On one side I put half with ii chipotle peppers. The other side was for the kids, no peppers. The spicy side was very spicy! In the future to adjust to our personal preference i will use half the cumin and mayhap less vinegar. Swell recipe overall.
10/21/2019
Then good! If you like spicy this is a good one for yous & your family! Il this one is always a hit!
07/09/2020
Yes Sir or Ma'am!!! This turned out admittedly delicious!!! I put the beef on fresh corn tortillas that were dipped in the au jus, then griddled, flipped and topped with cheese!!! Finished them off past stuffing them with this amazing beef, folded and crispied up! Topped them off with fresh onion, cilantro, and fresh squeezed lime!!! The family was in heaven!! Thank you so much for sharing!!!
03/15/2020
And so good! Tender and flavorful! I used deer shoulder roast. I added an actress chipotle and didn't measure my lime juice (I used 3). Perfectly spicy for our taste and simply a tad too much lime, next fourth dimension I'll utilize ii limes. I cooked it overnight for viii hours on low and then it was ready to pack for lunch the side by side 24-hour interval. The meat shredded then easily, was juicy, and total of flavor. My husband loved it likewise!
02/02/2021
Fantastic equally is!
10/24/2021
This was perfect! Made with nachos and what a hit! Don't change a thing….you've got the right ingredients…
12/20/2020

12/06/2016
Outstanding!! Anybody loves this recipe! I used the leftovers in the morning to brand some Barbacoa and potato/egg breakfast burritos! I fabricated a lot extra and then I could freeze and relish some other time. Truly accurate flavors.
03/08/2020
I've made this recipe a few times and this time used the given amount of lime juice. I really thought the beef season concluded upwards a little on the sour side, unfortunately, and my kids complained they didn't care for the gustation. My only change was the peppers - we tin can't do spicy, and so we used canned diced green chilies. The meat is tender past the terminate - keen for burritos. Lots of liquid left over. I might add less next time.
05/18/2020
The meat is super tender, very flavorful and everybody finished it off! Used my Instant Pot with the meat/stew setting and it cooked for 35 mins. Side by side time I am doubling the recipe so nosotros can take leftovers. Nosotros ate them with pan fried corn tortillas and topped with cilantro, avocado and fresh salsa. This volition be included in our meal rotation from now on. It was so so good!!
06/02/2018
Outstanding! Information technology had great flavor and heat. Fabricated exactly every bit written in our deadening cooker. Will definitely brand this once more.
05/04/2018
Loved this recipe! I used 2 one/2 chipotle peppers and information technology was perfectly spiced. Will brand again! Great as leftover meat as well.
08/xviii/2019
I actually used leftover beef from several sources and it simply took ii hours at 250f convention. I used green chilies and some jalapeƱo s instead of chipotle pepper. Fabulous season. Going into my top five Mexican recipes.. thanks so much for sharing
03/02/2020
Turned out ameliorate than could take imagined! Couldn't notice Chipotle Peppers in Adobo in time but used Chipotle powder in place. Besides added a healthy dash of Cayenne pepper for a tinge of oestrus.
08/27/2019
Family loved this version of roast beefiness. Have information technology easy with the adobe sauce, crusade that stuff is hot!!! Served with chopped tomatoe and onion, with a splash of lemon, flour tortill'as and refried beans. Very expert.
10/05/2017
This was delish! I just used 2 adobe peppers and I idea that information technology was perfectly spicy. However, Husband would have preferred some boosted oestrus. Thanks for a great recipe!
05/24/2020
I wanted to make beef barbacoa for commencement time so I read a bunch of recipes and decided on this one because of reviews and simple, straightforward recipe. Sooooo delicious, doubled the recipe and my 2 kids and I had information technology for lunch every day til it was gone!! Every bite was so tasty and tender!! Similar others I made it again and used chicken and loved it almost every bit much!! Can't await to arrive over again!!
09/24/2017
Pretty practiced, but not over the top. I'g non sure what I would do to go information technology up to the 5th star. I'm going to use the leftovers for a beef tortilla soup.
ten/02/2018
My hubby and I loved this! information technology was a bit spicy for the kids, but if information technology'due south mixed with some beans, cheese, lettuce, and such, it'due south much milder and family unit friendly.
04/xiii/2019
It was just okay; not a lot of season...
02/02/2018
The best tacos e'er. You need to make them
03/02/2017
Not the best I've ever had only still pretty skillful.
01/22/2017
Fabricated this for a group neighborhood assemble. Both the kids and adults loved this. The crock pot was scraped make clean. I'k making it again. This time without iv chipotles chopped in. I recall it fabricated information technology spicier. In hour iv of being in the crock pot I had a taste and feared it was too hot. In that last hr of cooking I removed the marinade and added the residue of the broth instead.
05/23/2017
I would utilize less cumin. Skip the vinegar all together. It was ok
